Should I Colour-treat My Hair?

So you want to switch up your look and are considering experimenting with some fun and sexy hair colours.

Here are a few things to consider:

1. Coloured hair requires a lot of TLC

Are you prepared for the upkeep colour treated hair requires in order to keep it healthy? You'll need to use colour safe products and moisturise your hair more often that you did before you coloured it. Are you are ready and do you have time for that.

2. Is your hair in the right condition to colour?

People don’t like to admit it but dying your hair damages it, the level of damage depends on the texture and condition of your hair. Dying your hair can dry it out and cause breakage. If you already have split ends, thin or damaged hair colouring it may not be wise. You'll need to wait until your hair is in better condition.

3. Your hair texture

If you have just relaxed your hair wait 2-3weeks before colouring. If you do it any earlier it will cause a lot of damage to your hair.

Natural hair already requires consistent moisturising by colouring it you are adding an element that further dries it out and compromising its health.

4. Research your options

Do your research about the other effects of colour treatments. Decide whether it would be worth it, if your hair did not thrive. Would you happy to cut it and restart your hair journey?  If not, you may want to look into more natural options like Henna. There are few options with less harmful chemicals that may help keep your hair healthy.

If you decide to colour your hair, please have it done by a professional, who is licensed to dye your hair. It could be the difference between extreme damage to your hair and thriving coloured hair.
